36th Annual Autumn Arts show at VGCC seeks entries

Autumn Arts 2011, the 36th annual juried art show sponsored by Vance-Granville Community College and the Kerr Lake Art Society, will be held Oct. 17 through Nov. 4. Autumn Arts will be open for public viewing from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday-Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays, on the second floor of Building 7 on VGCC’s Main Campus in Vance County, N.C.

 

The Autumn Arts competition is open to all artists, amateurs and professionals, working in any two-dimensional media. Work must be original, produced in the past 12 months, and not previously exhibited in a Kerr Lake Art Society show, according to Lelia Brigham, the society’s president and a part-time VGCC art instructor who coordinates the event.

 

Entries must be hand-delivered to VGCC (located at Exit 209 off I-85 between Henderson and Oxford, N.C.) between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Oct. 14 or Oct. 15. Judging is scheduled for Oct. 16.

 

Cash prizes will be awarded for the best original works, as chosen by the judge. The prize awarded for the Best Work in Show is $300. Second-place and third-places prizes, worth $200 and $100 respectively, will also be presented. Honorable mentions may be awarded at the judge’s discretion.

 

Finally (back by popular demand), members of the public can also vote for their favorite piece of art from Oct. 24 through Nov. 4. The “People’s Choice” winner will receive $50.

 

Artists may enter a maximum of three pieces for an entry fee of $20 for Kerr Lake Art Society members, or $25 for non-members. Works may not exceed 36 inches per side, image size. All entries must be framed, and sawtooth hangers are not allowed. Non-traditional works may be entered without a frame, but they must not exceed 36 inches and must be equipped for hanging. Artists are asked to cover their signatures on each piece of art.

 

All work entered must be for sale. Autumn Arts has commercial and private patrons who will select pieces they wish to buy from the show. Sales to the public at the value specified on the artist’s entry card will also be encouraged throughout the show. Works entered in the show will remain on display in Building 7 through Nov. 4, when the exhibit ends, and can be picked up on Nov. 5 or at other times by prior arrangement.
