14 VGCC Automotive Students Earn National Certification

Eight students in the day Automotive Systems Technology program and six in the evening program at Vance-Granville Community College have earned certification from the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF).

Vance-Granville’s automotive program earned NATEF certification three years ago, which indicates the program meets national standards for training. Students who complete VGCC’s program are assured that their training is current, complete and applicable to the automotive industry.

The latest students who have completed the day program and gained NATEF certification are Donald Moore and Carlos Wilkerson of Henderson, Ernest Reed and Larry Dunkin of Oxford, Nathan Preddy of Wilton, Kenneth Weston and Alexander Kinton of Youngsville, and Candi Speller of Raleigh.

Evening students earning NATEF certification are Clifton Perry and Cameron Tingen of Henderson, Kevin Brogden, Frank West and Jim Dunham of Oxford, and Donald Briggs of Wake Forest.

Upon completion of the VGCC program, students are prepared to take the Automotive Service Excellence exam and be ready for full-time employment in dealerships and repair shops in the automotive industry.

Fred Brewer, program head and instructor for the VGCC program, said the 14 students recently certified are all prepared to enter the workplace and should become excellent automotive technicians.
