New Student Quick Start Guide

Step 1: Find Your Student ID Number

When you receive your official acceptance letter, your Student ID number should be located in the top right hand corner of the page, as shown below.

Step 2: Find Your VanguardID & Password

To retrieve your VanguardID username, please follow the steps below.

  1. Open the What’s my VanguardID? tool.
  2. Enter your last name into the Required Field
  3. Enter either your Social Security Number OR Your Student ID/Colleague Number in their respective field
  4. Click Submit

The default password that you will use to login for the first time is Capital VG plus the last four digits of your Social Security Number (SS#). So it would look similar to: VG1234

**Note: If you did NOT provide a SS#, then it will be the last four digits of your Student ID Number. So it would look similar to: VG1234

Step 3: Login to myVGCC

What is my Email Address?

Your VGCC Email Address should be your VanguardID Username plus @vgcc.edu. For example, vguard1234@vgcc.edu

Logging In

    1. Navigate to myVGCC
    2. Login using your entire email address as your username
    3. Use the default password
    4. At this point, you will be prompted to set up Multi-Factor Authentication

Step 4: Set Up Multifactor Authentication

To set up Mulitfactor Authentication, please follow the steps below. You may also refer to our Two-Step Verification PDF which includes QR codes that you can scan to download the app, or watch our How To Set Up Multifactor Authentication Video.

  1. Install the Microsoft Authenticator App
  2. Ofter you install the Authenticator app, follow the steps below to add your Student Email Account
    1. Open the Authenticator App.
    2. Select (+) in the upper right corner.
    3. Point your camera at the QR code on the Student Email Login Screen or follow the instructions provided in your account settings.
  3. After your account appears in the Authenticator app, you can use the one-time codes to sign in. For more information and support on the Authenticator App, open the Download Microsoft Authenticator (microsoft.com) page.

Step 5: Change Your Password

  1. While in myVGCC, click the box with your VanguardID in the upper right corner.
  2. Click Change Password

  3. You will be taken to a “change password” screen. Your vgcc email address will display in the “user ID field”. Enter your “old password” which is VG(last 4 of social), and then enter a new password in the “create new password” field. This password has to be between 6-9 characters.

  4. Note: There is text that mentions “This page will soon no longer be available” If this page does not work, please click the “MySecurityInfo” link to be redirected to the new page (shown below).

Over the Phone

Students needing help with login related issues are encouraged to call our Help Desk Request line at: 252-738-3316 during normal business hours

Online

Students may put in a Help Desk Request Form for help with any number of tech related issues. A valid call back number is required so that someone from our IT department can reach out to you directly.
Students may also utilize the 24/7 Anthology Help Desk for moodle related issues including, but not limited to, password resets and other general login issues.
