March is Women's History Month! Vance-Granville is hosting a series of events throughout March to celebrate women's historical contributions. All students, faculty, staff, and the public are invited to attend a presentation on "Dr. Mary Martin Sloop and Educational Reform in North Carolina" by Natasha Thompson, on Tuesday, March 6, from 12-1 p.m., at VGCC's Franklin Campus, in the Multipurpose Building (Bldg. 4).

VGCC History Instructor Natasha Thompson will address the life and work of a notable North Carolina woman, Dr. Mary Martin Sloop, who practiced medicine, fought moonshiners, campaigned against child marriages, and established a school in the North Carolina mountains. Her efforts earned her the 1951 Golden Rule Foundation's Mother of the Year Award.
