Welcome and thank you for visiting the Division of Business & Applied Technologies at Vance-Granville Community College. The purpose of the Business & Applied Technologies Division is to provide technical training for students beyond the high school level; to provide the work force with qualified, well-educated graduates; and stay abreast of the latest developments in the work world so that Vance-Granville Community College graduates can enter a work environment already prepared.

With these purposes in mind, the Business & Applied Technologies Division designs programs to meet the needs of three types of students, including (1) students pursuing an Associate in Applied Science Degree and who plan to enter the job market after graduation; (2) students taking specific courses to assist them with their current job or to assist them with career advancement and (3) students seeking the training and skill needed to perform many of the trades that are needed in our society today.

The Business & Applied Technologies Division offers a variety of training opportunities with flexible scheduling and varied instructional methodologies. The Associate of Applied Science Degree is offered in 16 programs. Certificate are offered in 19 programs & there are another 7 Diploma programs offered.

Well-prepared faculty are essential in the overall scheme of the educational profession. The Business & Applied Technologies Division has a highly qualified staff, who are continually taking courses, attending workshops and conferences, obtaining and maintaining certifications as well as reading correspondence in an effort to provide students with updated information available in the job market. Flexible scheduling affords students the opportunity to elect day or evening classes to complete their degree, contingent upon their respective programs and individual needs. Restaurant Hospitality

The Culinary Arts curriculum provides specific training required to prepare students to assume positions as trained culinary professionals in a variety of food service settings including full service restaurants, hotels, resorts, clubs, catering operations, contract food service, and health care facilities.

Robotics & Machine Design Certificate

The Robotics & Machine Design Certificate is a Career & College Pathway (CCP) and prepares students with basic course work in mechanical assemblies and maintenance, electronic circuitry and circuit analysis, hydraulic circuit and assembly operation, computer-aided solid modeling, simple mechanial component design and an introduction in to robotic operation and programming.  The students will learn about the considerations to be made in creating robot parts as well as the motive forces and controls in automated machinery.

Sole Proprietorship Accounting

The Accounting curriculum is designed to provide students with the knowledge and the skills necessary for employment and growth in the accounting profession. Using the "language of business," accountants assemble and analyze, process, and communicate essential information about financial operations.

Suspension & Steering

The Automotive Systems Technology curriculum prepares individuals for employment as Automotive Service Technicians. It provides an introduction to automotive careers and increases student awareness of the challenges associated with this fast and ever-changing field.

Classroom and lab experiences integrate technical and academic course work. Emphasis is placed on theory, servicing and operation of brakes, electrical/electronic systems, engine performance, steering/suspension, automatic transmission/ transaxles, engine repair, climate control and manual drive trains.

Sustainable Electrical Energies

The Sustainability Technologies curriculum is designed to prepare individuals for employment in environmental, construction, renewable energy, or related industries, where key emphasis is placed on energy production and waste reduction along with sustainable technologies.

Course work includes renewable energy, green building technology, and environmental technologies. Additional topics may include sustainability, energy management, waste reduction, renewable energy, site as sessment, and environmental responsibility.
 

Transportation Logistics

The Global Logistics Technology curriculum prepares individuals for a multitude of career opportunities in distribution, transportation and manu facturing organizations. Classroom instruction, field of study experiences
and practical laboratory applications of logistics management and global technology capabilities are included in the program of study.

The Welding Technology curriculum provides students a sound understanding of the science, technology, and applications essential for successful employment in the welding and metal industries.

Instruction includes consumable and non-consumable electrode welding and cutting processes. Courses in math, blueprint reading, metallurgy, welding inspection, and destructive and non- destructive testing provides the student with industry standard skills developed through classroom training and practical applications.
