The Workforce Investment Act is federal legislation that provides training and employment opportunities for eligible adults to either enter, re-enter or remain in the labor force. Administered by the U.S. Department of Labor through state and local Workforce Development Boards, target populations generally include the unemployed, underemployed, economically disadvantaged, dislocated workers or those who need employment skills upgrading.
The Global Youth program is designed to serve in-school youth ages 16-18 and out-of-school youth ages 18-21 years old in preparing to enter the workforce through work experience, occupational skills training and provides an introduction to career opportunities.
At Vance-Granville, a variety of WIA-sponsored training opportunities can be provided through curriculum or occupational extension trainings and through standard or customized course offerings. On-the-job training and work experience sites are also provided with local employers. Depending upon the availability of funds, services and benefits provided to eligible persons may include: payment of tuition, fees, books, supplies, transportation, counseling, job development, practical work experience, wages subsidy and job placement.
