How to Enroll Students in Learn and Earn
  1. The high school will direct students to submit an application for admission to VGCC through the CFNC Website well in advance of the beginning of the semester. Students should indicate Learn and Earn as their major. There must be time to process the admissions application, administer placement test if necessary, and generally work out all logistics for enrolling the student.

  2. The high school should enter all students interested in Learn and Earn on the spreadsheet template link provided when they submit an application for admission. Link for Template. This template should be saved as an Excel document prior to populating the fields. The populated document should then be sent as an email attachment to bumphuss@vgcc.edu This template serves two functions.
    1. It notifies the college of all students at a particular high school who intend to take Learn and Earn classes
    2. The template serves as a tracking instrument to assist high school and college staff in making sure that each student has met all requirements to enroll in the desired course. College staff will use the template to communicate back to high school staff concerning missing student information. The college will assign a staff person to be the point of contact with each high school concerning admissions issues.

  3. The high school counselor, using the course description link as a guide, must determine if prerequisites apply to courses that students have selected. If so, there are two ways to satisfy the prerequisite requirement.
    • Arrange for students to take one of the approved placement tests listed above. This can be coordinated with the counselor contact person at VGCC. If tests are not administered by VGCC, the scores must be reviewed to ensure the minimum cut scores have been achieved and forwarded to the VGCC counselor contact person who will also review the scores for appropriate course placement.
    • The placement test requirement may be waived if the student has achieved the following SAT or ACT scores.

  4. Prerequisites
MAT 80...SAT math score of 500 or higher
ACT math score of 19 or higher
    ENG 90 and/or RED 90....
SAT verbal score of 500 or higher
ACT English and Reading components of 19 or higher

  5. The counselor contact at VGCC will work closely with the Admissions Office and the high school to assist in resolving all admissions and placement testing issues prior to registration for the semester. Specific admissions questions may be addressed to Tonya Waddle, Asst. Director of Admissions, if necessary at (252) 738-3269 or at waddlet@vgcc.edu

  6. The high school should complete a course registration form for each student here based on the student's request and placement/waiver results. Forms should be printed, completed with required information, and signed by the student prior to faxing or mailing to the VGCC counselor contact person. (FAX 252-738-3458 or Admissions PO Box 917 Henderson, NC 27536).

  7. The college will officially register, from the course registration form, the student into the online class if all admissions requirements have been met and if there is space available.

  8. The Director of Distance Education will work with each high school lab facilitator to assist with initial login and access issues for students.

  9. Once a student has been registered for his/her class(es) they must complete the Online Orientation for Blackboard & CampusCruiser. This is where you will get your username & password for your online class(es). The orientatation must be completed during the first five days of class.

  10. The college will mail each student a grade report at the end of each semester. Each student is responsible for providing a copy to their high school if high school credit is to be awarded. Students may click on the following link to request an official copy of their College Transcript if needed.
