Grants

Federal and State Grants

Grants are need based funds provided by federal and state governments that do not have to be repaid. To be eligible for federal and state grants, students must meet eligibility requirements.  Requirements are listed  here.   Below is a list of grant programs available at Vance-Granville Community College.

Federal

Federal Pell Grant

  • Application:    FAFSA
  • Priority Deadline:   June 15 at the end of academic year (for example, for 2021-22 the deadline is June 15, 2022).
  • Award Amount:   Maximum amount is $6,495 per year for 2021.  The award amount is determined by cost of attendance, Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from student’s FAFSA results, and enrollment status.
  • Information:   The Federal Pell Grant Program provides grants, which do not have to be repaid, to students who are a US citizen or permanent resident, demonstrate financial need, meet eligibility requirements and are enrolled in an eligible program.  Pell Grants are awarded usually only to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor’s or a professional degree.
  • Lifetime Eligibility:   600% or the equivalent of 12 full-time semesters

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant

 (FSEOG)

  • Application:    FAFSA
  • Deadline:   March 31 (priority)
  • Award Amount:   Award amount varies.
  • Information:   The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant provides grants, which do not have to be repaid, to students who are a US citizen or permanent resident, demonstrate exceptional financial need, meet eligibility requirements and are enrolled in an eligible program. Pell Grant recipients receive priority consideration. This fund may also be used on a case by case basis to assist students with balances at the college, however they must be Pell eligible students.

State 

North Carolina Scholarship

(Replacing NC Community College Grant and NC Education Lottery Scholarship.)

Eligibility:

  • Be a North Carolina resident as defined by North Carolina Residency Determination Service
  • Enroll for at least 6 credit hours
  • Be admitted, enrolled, and classified as an undergraduate student in matriculated status in a degree, certificate or diploma program at one of the 16 institutions of The University of North Carolina or at a North Carolina Community College

Description:
The NC Scholarship works with federal aid to provide a guaranteed amount of financial assistance with additional state funding provided to students with exceptional need.
Students enrolling at a North Carolina Community College with an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $75,000 or less and an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of 7,500 or less, as reported on the FAFSA, are guaranteed at least $2,800 from combined federal and state aid.

Application Requirements:
Applicants must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) listing a North Carolina Community College.

Other Information:
Consideration for funding is automatic once the FAFSA is filed. The FAFSA filing priority date is August 15 for North Carolina Community Colleges. Applicants completing the FAFSA after these dates may be denied if insufficient funds are available.
