Distance Education

DISTANCE EDUCATION  is an innovative way for students to take courses at home. The Distance Learning program at Vance-Granville Community College includes courses delivered over the Internet. The college offers three kinds of distance courses: curriculum,  continuing education, and literacy programs.  Students who enroll in distance education course agree to adhere to the VGCC Student Code of Conduct.  This code prohibits any dishonest conduct.  Dishonest conduct "includes, but is not limited to cheating, plagiarism, falsification of information, abuse of academic materials, fraud, attempt to assist another to commit an act of dishonesty, and unauthorized use of College name."

The college’s curriculum distance program is called learning at a distance and offers courses for credit that apply to one or more of the institution’s degree or diploma programs. Many of the courses transfer to four-year colleges and universities.

Continuing education distance education classes are taught through the college’s online learning program and offer people courses that are designed to upgrade their skills, particularly computer skills. These courses do not carry college credit, and no grades are given; CEU's (Continuing Education Units) are awarded for satisfactory completion.

Literacy Education is routinely handled in an on-site classroom environment.  However, beginning with Summer 2005 term, we will be offering the additional opportunity of obtaining training online through our education program known as Literacy Online.  Our goal is to provide support and encouragement to move you toward successfully meeting you personal education goals, whether it is the recovery of high school credits necessary for obtaining your high school diploma, completion of a GED program, or satisfactory conclusion of some other educational endeavor.
