Placement tests are required for admission into curriculum programs. The placement scores will be used for academic advising and course placement. Testing is designed to evaluate the student's current skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. Students who lack basic academic skills will be given opportunities to eliminate deficiencies through developmental courses or with appropriate remediation through the Adult Basic Skills program. Vance-Granville Community College uses the COMPASS and ASSET tests developed by ACT (American College Testing). These are national tests that can be administered at other colleges and transferred to Vance-Granville Community College.
Applicants may schedule an appointment to take the placement tests after completing an application for admission. The test is FREE to prospective and currently enrolled students. A proctoring fee of $25 will be assessed for individuals requesting to test for other colleges or agencies.
