VGCC welcomes new trustee, gets update on plans for new building

Vance-Granville Community College’s Board of Trustees welcomed Barbara Cates Harris of Oxford as its newest member and received an update on plans for its newest building on Monday, Sept. 15.


District Court Judge Daniel F. Finch of Oxford, the chief district court judge for the Ninth Judicial District, swore Harris into office. She was appointed to the board by the Granville County Board of Education to take the place of former Trustee Ernest Thompson at the end of his term.

J.F. Webb star Tyrek Beverly joins VGCC basketball team

Tyrek Beverly of Oxford, a 2014 graduate of J.F. Webb High School, recently signed a letter of intent to join the men’s basketball team at Vance-Granville Community College. VGCC names head of new Mechatronics program

Keith Shearon of Youngsville has been named to lead the new Mechatronics Engineering Technology program at Vance-Granville Community College. Shearon brings decades of industry experience in manufacturing and electronics to the program and his students.

VGCC to offer free High School Equivalency practice tests for limited time

Vance-Granville Community College will provide High School Equivalency practice tests at no cost to any local adult on weekdays between Sept. 22 and Oct. 3, 2014, as part of the national GED Testing Service’s “See for Free” program.

VGCC schedules EMT-Basic training at Warren Campus

Vance-Granville Community College has scheduled an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic course, starting Tuesday, Sept. 23, and continuing through Feb. 11, 2015, at the college’s Warren County Campus in Warrenton.


This course represents the first phase of training in the EMT career field. Classes will be held Monday through Thursday each week, plus some additional meetings on certain Saturdays.
