Vanguards win on the road at CVCC

The Vance-Granville Community College Vanguards men’s basketball team notched another important conference win on Sunday, Feb. 22, defeating the Red Hawks of Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, 63-60. The game was originally scheduled as a home game for VGCC but was postponed and relocated due to last week’s winter weather.


CVCC led 30-28 at halftime of the close contest. In the two teams’ previous meeting of the season, also in Hickory, the Vanguards kept it close in the first half but went on to lose, 89-76.


This time, VGCC was led in scoring by Raekwon Hall, who had 18 points along with seven rebounds and a team-high seven assists. Khadier Fulcher was the Vanguards’ leading rebounder, with 13. He also scored... | Read More...

VGCC Black History Month program rescheduled for Feb. 26

To celebrate Black History Month, Vance-Granville Community College will hold an enlightening program focusing on local history and the arts.

Vance-Granville Community College held a “Celebration of Gospel” on Feb. 12, in honor of Black History Month, and in the spirit of bringing together the college with the communities it serves. VGCC schedules “Let’s Have a Tea Party”

Vance-Granville Community College will offer a course on “afternoon tea,” the tradition that is enjoying a renaissance as fine hotels, inns and tea rooms across the country give guests an opportunity to retreat from the hurried pace of their lives.

VGCC’s Hicks awarded scholarship for research program

Julie Hicks of Oxford, coordinator of institutional research at Vance-Granville Community College, recently completed a program of courses offered by the Data and Decisions Academy, which awarded her a Presidential Scholarship. Hicks was nominated for the scholarship by Dr. Stelfanie Williams, the president of VGCC.
