Hagan visits job fair held at VGCC
Nov. 16, 2009
U.S. Senator Kay Hagan visited a job fair focused on helping area military veterans, which was held at the Civic Center on Vance-Granville Community College’s main campus in Vance County on Nov. 12. The event, sponsored by the Vance County and Granville County offices of the North Carolina Employment Security Commission, was the third such job fair organized in conjunction with the Veterans Day holiday. The fair featured businesses looking for potential employees, as well as educational institutions, such as VGCC, where veterans can explore opportunities supported by Department of Veterans Affairs educational assistance. Hagan, the junior senator from North Carolina, and members of her staff were available to talk with veterans and other constituents about their concerns. Among the people Hagan met was VGCC student Marlon Minga of Henderson. Minga served for four years in the U.S. Marine Corps, including tours in Iraq and Kuwait. Minga is currently enrolled in the College Transfer program at VGCC and is a math tutor in the college’s Academic Skills Center.
