Computer Set-up=20 Instructions

The following instructions explain how to set up = your=20 computer to allow you to run the GEDONLINE or A+ program or both. These=20 instructions work on any Windows XP and Vista operating system = using=20 Internet Explorer 6 (IE6) or Internet Explorer 7 (IE7). Instructions will be annotated = to=20 indicate if the instruction applies to IE6, IE7, or Vista IE7. If no annotation, assume that = the=20 instruction applies to all versions of Internet Explorer. Instructions for browsers other = than=20 Internet Explorer are not included because the applications may = not=20 function properly for students using those other browsers (Examples: = Firefox, Safari, Netscape, or=20 Opera). Carefully = follow each=20 instruction below:

1. =20 Bring up Internet Explorer.

2. =20 Click on Tools on the menu bar at the top = of=20 Internet Explorer.

3. =20 On the =93drop-down=94 menu, select/click = on Internet=20 Options.

4. =20 On the Internet Options page, the = General,=20 Security, and Privacy tabs are important to this process.

5. =20 Do NOT=20 click APPLY and OK at the bottom of the Internet Options page until step = 28 of=20 this process!

6. =20 On the General tab, under Browsing = History, click=20 the Settings button.

7. =20 In the Settings window, make sure that = =93Check for=20 Newer Versions of Stored Pages=94 is set to =93Every Time I Visit the = Webpage=94. Click OK at the bottom of this = window.

8. =20 Click on the Security = Tab.

9. =20 If not selected, Click=20 on the =93Internet=94 symbol in the =93Select a zone =85=94 box at = top.

10. =20 Click on the =93Custom Level=94 box at = the bottom of=20 the Security tab.

11. =20 You are now on the page labeled = =93Security=20 Settings =96 Internet Zone=94. = At the=20 bottom of that page, make sure the =93Reset custom settings=94 is set to = Medium. If not, = change it to=20 Medium and click on Reset. =20 Answer =93Yes=94 to the question =93Are you sure you want to = change the=20 settings for this zone?=94

12. =20 Click OK which will take you back to the = Security=20 tab.

13. =20 Click on the =93Trusted sites=94 symbol = in the=20 =93Select a zone =85=94 box at top.

14. =20 This will highlight the Sites box. Click on that Sites box to = bring up the=20 =93Trusted sites=94 page.

15. =20 In the box labeled =93Add this website to = the=20 zone:=94 , type https://www.mhclearning.com/ = and then=20 click on =93Add=94. The = address is now=20 written in the =93Websites:=94 box.

16. =20 Click on Close to close the =93Trusted = sites=94=20 page. Make sure the Trusted sites symbol still selected.

17. =20 Click on the =93Custom Level=94 box at = the bottom of=20 the Security tab.

18. =20 You are now on the page labeled = =93Security=20 Settings =96 Trusted Sites Zone=94. At=20 the bottom of that page, make sure the =93Reset custom settings=94 is = set to=20 Medium. If not, = change it to=20 Medium and click on Reset. =20 Answer =93Yes=94 to the question =93Are you sure you want to = change the=20 settings for this zone?=94

19. =20 Click OK which will take you back to the = Security=20 tab.

20. =20 (Vista IE7 only) There is a small check = box=20 labeled =93Enabled Protected Mode=94. =20 Uncheck the box.

(Note: You may later see a bar at the = top of=20 the Internet Explorer window asking about permission to install = =93Active X=94=20 controls =96 answer =93Yes=94 to that question.)

21. =20 Click on the Privacy = tab.

22. =20 The slider in the Settings section at the = top of=20 the page should be set on Medium. =20 If not, move it to Medium.

23. =20 In the Pop-up Blocker section at the = bottom of=20 the page, the little box labeled =93Turn on Pop-up Blocker=94 should be = checked, and=20 the =93Settings=94 box to the right should be highlighted.

24. =20 Click on =93Settings=94

25. =20 On the Pop-up Blocker Settings page, = enter the=20 following 4 addresses in the box labeled =93Address of website to = allow:=94, and=20 click on =93Add=94 each time:

a. =20 204.97.228.54 (This is another IP = address tied=20 to the Aplus application. Your computer may not accept = this=20 entry. If this occurs, = you may=20 later see a bar at the top of the Internet Explorer window asking about=20 permission to allow pop-ups for this address. If so, you should answer = =93Yes=94 to that=20 question.)

b. =20 http://www.aplusanywhere.com/<= /P>

c. =20 http://www.mhcgedonline.com/

d. =20 http://www.mhclearning.com/

26. =20 Make sure the =93Filter level:=94 at the = bottom the=20 page is set on Medium or Low.

27. =20 Click on =93Close=94. This brings you back to the = Privacy=20 Tab.

28. = Finally, click on =93Apply=94 and = then=20 =93OK=94. This closes the = Internet=20 Options page brings you back to the Internet Explorer = page.

29. =20 Now close out (=93X-out=94) Internet = Explorer.

30. =20 Reopen the Internet Explorer.

31. =20 {For=20 AHS and GED students} =93Right-Click=94 a blank spot on your = Desktop, Click=20 on New, Click on =93Shortcut=94, on the pop-up enter www.aplusanywhere.com/van= cegcc/ as the location of the item = and click=20 =93Next=94, and = finally enter on=20 the form =93Aplus=94 for the shortcut name = and click =93Finish=94.

32. =20 {For=20 GED students only} =93Right-Click=94 a blank spot on your = Desktop, Click on=20 New, Click on =93Shortcut=94, on the pop-up enter = http://www.mhcgedonline.com/ as the location of the item = and click=20 =93Next=94, and = finally enter on=20 the form =93GED=94 for the shortcut name and click =93Finish=94.

33. =20 {For=20 GED students only} Install the GEDONLINE application per = instructions=20 provided with the CD.

34. =20 You are now ready to log on the assigned=20 application.

a. =20 If=20 you are working on your Adult High School Diploma program, you will be = assigned=20 and have access to only the A+ program at www.aplusanywhere.com/van= cegcc/ .

b. =20 If you are working on your GED, you will = be=20 assigned and have access to both the A+ program at www.aplusanywhere.com/van= cegcc/=20 and the GEDONLINE program at http://www.mhcgedonline.com/ = . You may use either program or = both=20 programs to help you prepare for obtaining your GED.

c. =20 Your logon ID or username and password = for both=20 programs will be the same and need to be entered in all lower case as = follows:=20

= ; = &= nbsp; &n= bsp; &nb= sp; =20 i. =20 Initial of first name followed by your = last name=20 will be your logon ID. In = case of=20 conflict with other users, we may use both first and middle name = initials.

(Example: Samuel O. = Thomas=92s=20 logon ID will be = sthomas =20 or sothomas=20 .)

(Example: Samuel O. = Thomas=92s=20 password will be = samuel=20 .)
