| F.A.Q. (Frequently Asked Questions) When and where are the courses offered? Huskins courses are offered either at the high school or on the community college campus. Your high school guidance counselor has a complete list of all Huskins courses available each semester and the location of each. Will the college credits earned transfer to other colleges? Transfer credit to a college or university system would only be given for those Huskins courses that are part of the articulation agreement between Vance-Granville Community College and that particular school. In addition, a grade of "C" or better is required for any course to transfer. What should I consider in deciding whether or not Huskins courses are a good choice for me? Are you willing to put forth the time and effort necessary to be successful in college level coursework? If the course is located on a college campus, do you have transportation to the college each day? Note: Huskins courses are designed to supplement your high school course of study as electives and will not take the place of your required high school coursework. How does a student qualify to take Huskins courses? Students interested in taking Huskins courses should talk with their high school counselor to see what courses are available that may fit/supplement their course track. The high school can schedule them for placement testing at the High School or may refer them to the high school advisor at one of Vance-Granville's four campuses. Placement testing is required to determine whether or not the student meets the required prerequisites for the course the student is interested in taking. Can I drop/Withdraw from a Huskins course? Yes. If you file the appropriate paperwork by the required deadline, you can withdraw from a course. However, the withdrawal only applies to Vance-Granville Community College. If you are taking a class for elective hours required to complete your units for graduation and you withdraw, it may affect your ability to graduate on time. It is also important to note that if you just stop attending a class and do not complete an actual withdrawal form, a grade of "F" will be awarded and placed on your Vance-Granville Community College transcript, which may affect your ability to gain acceptance to another college or to receive Title IV Financial Aid. Will Huskins courses meet high school graduation requirements? Huskins courses are not designed to meet high school graduation requirements. They are only designed to offer elective credit at the high school and credit toward a program of study at a local community college. May I choose to enroll in a Huskins course rather than an equivalent Advanced Placement (AP) course? Some Huskins courses are weighted by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction as Honors (AP) courses and some are not. It is extremely important to work with your high school guidance counselor to plan your course of study and to make certain that you are enrolling in those courses that best meet your long-range educational goals. What if I want to enroll in a Vance-Granville Community College course not offered through the Huskins program? Any student who meets the eligibility requirements may enroll in courses at Vance-Granville Community College whether or not those courses are part of the Huskins Program courses. However, textbook costs and other fees will apply and students may not receive any dual credit at their respective high schools. For more information regarding Huskins courses or other high school programs, please contact Vance-Granville Community College at one of our locations listed below or your high school guidance counselor.
