The Health Sciences Division of Vance-Granville Community College strives to prepare students to enter a diverse, people-oriented field in which professionals work to promote lifestyle wellness, and improve client health education, thereby improving the health status of society.

The
Associate Degree Nursing Program is a two-year program that provides individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide nursing care to clients and groups of clients throughout the lifespan in a variety of setting. Courses offered in this curriculum include content related to the nurse´s role as a provider of nursing care, as a manager of care, as member of the discipline of nursing, and as a member of the interdisciplinary team. Graduates of the program are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN), which is required for practice as a Registered Nurse. Employment opportunities include hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics, physician´s offices, industry, and community agencies. This program is offered at the Main Campus in Henderson, NC. The
Computed Tomography & Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technology The Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technology
curriculum, a specialty for radiographers, prepares the individual to use specialized equipment to visualize cross-sectional anatomical structures
and aid physicians in the demonstration of pathologies and disease processes. Individuals entering this curriculum must be registered or registry eligible radiologic technologists by the ARRT.

The
Practical Nursing Program is a one-year (three-semester) program that prepares individuals with the knowledge and skills to provide nursing care to children and adults. Students enrolled in this curriculum will participate in assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care. Courses offered in this program include content related to the nurse´s role as a provider of nursing care and a member of the discipline of nursing. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN), which is required for practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Employment opportunities include hospitals, rehabilitation/long term care/home health facilities, clinics, and physicians´ offices. This program is offered at Main Campus in Henderson, NC. The
Radiography Program prepares individuals to be a radiographer, a skilled health care professional who uses radiation to produce images of the human body. The two-year program offers a combination of didactic

and clinical experiences in state-of-the-art facilities. Courses offered in this program include clinical rotations to area health care facilities, radiographic exposure, image processing, radiographic procedures, physics, pathology, patient care and management, radiation protection, quality assurance, anatomy and physiology and radiobiology. Graduates of accredited programs are eligible to apply to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists´ national examination for certification and registration as medical radiographers. Employment opportunities include hospitals, clinics, physicians´ offices, medical laboratories, government agencies, and industry. This program is offered at South Campus in Creedmoor, NC. The
Medical Assisting Program is a two-year program designed to prepare multi-skilled health care professionals qualified to perform administrative, clinical, and laboratory procedures. The curriculum includes instruction in scheduling appointments, coding and processing insurance accounts, billing, collections, medical transcription, computer operations; assisting with examinations/treatment, performing routine laboratory procedures, electrocardiography, supervised medication administration; and ethical/legal issues associated with patient care. Upon successful completion of this program, graduates of CAAHEP accredited medical assisting programs may be eligible to sit for the American Association of Medical Assistants´ Certification Examination to become Certified Medical Assistants. Employment opportunities include physicians´ offices, health maintenance organization, health departments, and hospitals. This program is offered at the Franklin County Campus is Louisburg, NC.

The
Human Services Technology is divided amongest three concentrations. All three programs consist of between 68-72 credit hours and require two semesters of co-op (also called internship) at an approved human services agency. The co-op requirements are explained in detail in the co-op application packet. This program is offered at South Campus in Creedmoor, NC. The Program Director is Mr. Tracy Wallace.

The
Pharmacy Technology Program ia a one year curriculum prepares individuals to assist the pharmacist in duties that a technician can legally perform and to function within the boundaries prescribed by the pharmacist and the employment agency.
Graduates will maintain patients´ records; fill prescriptions; maintain inventories; set up, package, and label medication doses; prepare solutions and intravenous admixtures; and perform clerical duties, including insurance, billing, adjudication, and 3rd party reconciliation.
Employment opportunities include hospitals, nursing homes, private and chain drug stores, research laboratories, wholesale drug companies, pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities and PBM call centers. Graduates qualify to take the National Certification Examination developed by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. This program is offered at Main Campus in Henderson, NC.
