Open auditions for Vance-Granville Community College’s spring Dinner Theater will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. in the small auditorium (Building 2) on Main Campus.
Following on the success of the college’s first-ever Dinner Theater in 2013, this year’s event is scheduled for May 1-2, 2014 in the Civic Center. The play is the classic mystery, “An Inspector Calls” by J. B. Priestley.
All VGCC students, faculty and staff are welcome to audition. The play features roles for four men and three women. Anyone interested in auditioning must prepare a two-minute monologue and read from the script. Dialects will be used in the production. Copies of the script are available to check out from Betsy Henderson, Department Chair/Instructor of Humanities and Fine Arts.
Set in England in the early 20th century, the drama opens as the Birling family has just enjoyed a lavish dinner party to celebrate their daughter’s engagement. A knock on the door brings an abrupt halt to their evening. A determined police inspector is investigating the death of a young girl. He proceeds to interrogate the family, discovering dark secrets and setting off a series of revelations. “An Inspector Calls” is not only an English drawing-room mystery in the tradition of Agatha Christie, but also a social critique that has made it a literary classic.
