Certifications
National certification is necessary for any welder wishing to work on aircraft, buildings, shipyards, bridges, pipelines and other jobs where the strength and quality of the weld is important to public safety. To become certified, welders must pass a rigorous "hands-on" welding test where they prove that they can weld up to strict quality standards. More than 545 Vance-Granville Community College welding students have passed the American Welding Society certification exam since the program started in 1972, with 93 percent being currently employed in welding or welding-related jobs.
