Basic Law Enforcement Training (blet)
BLET is a Certificate program and is designed to give students essential skills required for entry-level employment as law enforcement officers with state, county, or municipal governments, or with private enterprise. This program utilizes State commission-mandated topics and methods of instruction. General subjects include, but are not limited to, criminal, juvenile, civil, traffic, and alcoholic beverage laws; investigative, patrol, custody, and court procedures; emergency responses; and ethics and community relations. Students must successfully complete and pass all units of study which include the certification examination mandated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and the North Carolina Sheriffs' Education and Training Standards Commission to receive a certificate. This course covers the basic skills and knowledge needed for entry-level employment as a law enforcement officer in North Carolina. Topics are divided into general units of study: legal, patrol duties, law enforcement communications, investigation, practical application and sheriff-specific. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate competence in the topics and areas required for the state comprehensive examination. |

| Admission Requirements |
You will be required to obtain a sponsorship from a law enforcement agency prior to being allowed to enroll. This can take days or weeks to obtain, but is not generally a problem if you have not been charged with a felony. You must provide VGCC with a certified copy of your criminal record from every jurisdiction that you have resided in since you turned age 16. You must also have a medical exam completed by a State Licensed Medical Doctor allowing you to participate in the Basic Law Enforcement Training program. A BLET STUDENT MUST
