The Vance-Granville Community College Board of Trustees held its bimonthly meeting on Monday, March 17 at the college’s Henderson campus. During that meeting, the Board voted to move forward with project planning for the Facilities Master Plan, voted to adopt the County Current and Capital Outlay Budgets, and heard updates from the college’s administration on successes at the college.
As approved at the Feb. 25 called meeting of the Board, the Facilities Master Plan, a ten-year proposed plan to meet the building and growth needs of the college, now goes into phase one project planning. At the March 17 meeting, the Board agreed to authorize the administration and the Building Committee to move forward with steps for planning the initial projects.
Upon recommendation by the Budget Committee, the Board voted to adopt the 2008-2009 County Current and Capital Outlay Budgets as presented, contingent upon approval by appropriate county commissioners in the four-county area. The total requested amounts for each county are: Vance County, $1,110,554; Granville County, $658,947; Warren County, $180,212; and Franklin County, 336,847.
The Board also approved a campus access/ security fee of $0.75 per credit hour up to 16 semester hours and $1.00 per course for Community and Economic Development classes. These fees will fund increased security at the college.
President Randy Parker reported to the Board that in the 2007 fall semester, VGCC had its highest curriculum enrollment in the history of the college - 4,352 students. President Parker said part of the reason for the growth is high school students taking college-credit courses at VGCC.
Dr. Angela Ballentine, Vice President of Instruction, reported to the Board that the college’s 2007 Radiography program graduates had attained a 100 percent passing rate on the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists’ national examination.
Vanessa Jones, Vice President of Community and Economic Development, reported to the Board that in a system-wide review of all 58 community colleges, Vance-Granville Community College had placed first in its region for Occupational Health Care (CNA, Phlebotomy, Medication Aide, Medical Coding); eighth in the state in Occupational Extension and 11th in the state in Human Resources Development.
The next regular meeting of the Board will be held on Monday, May 19 at 7 p.m. in the board room on Main Campus.
